San Pablo names Maria Lara-Ojeda as new assistant city manager after extensive search

San Pablo has chosen its new Assistant City Manager after vetting dozens of candidates, according to officials.

In a statement Sunday, City Manager Matt Rodriguez announced that Maria Lara-Ojeda was picked out of 101 applicants as the city’s new Assistant City Manager by an executive search firm based in Roseville. The selection process began in July.

According to city officials, Lara-Ojeda served as the Assistant City Manager for the last five years with American Canyon. She also had served as a consultant and interim finance director for Benicia and Yountville.

“Ms. Lara-Ojeda brings forward a strong record in public service, serving in a number of local municipal organizations in the Bay Area region for the last 25 years, and has developed a diverse experience, and vast knowledge in managing administrative, budget, financial, and internal operations in those cities served,” said Rodriguez. “She will be a tremendous addition to our City organization, and will serve as a valuable member of the City’s Executive Team.”

He said Lara-Ojeda will serve as San Pablo’s “number two” administrator and operational officer and report directly to his office, with daily management and operational oversight over all city departments.

Her appointment will be in effect on Nov. 18. Officials said her starting base salary is $264,840 annually.
