A new Costco will be coming to Brentwood by 2025, and local officials are hailing it as a boon for the area.
“Residents of Brentwood have excitedly awaited the arrival of Costco for far too long,” said Mayor Joel Bryant in a press release sent out by the city. “We are delighted to welcome this retailer to our town which will undoubtedly reduce the trips for area residents and generate much-needed revenues for our city.”
The new Costco will be located on the town’s north side, on Lone Tree Plaza Drive near the Antioch and Brentwood border.
According to the city, Costco’s arrival in Brentwood means that the 66,000 residents, as well as thousands more from the cities of Antioch, Oakley, Discovery Bay and Bethel Island, will no longer have to travel more than 10 miles east and west to Costco stores in Antioch and Tracy.
The proposed Costco was unanimously approved by both the Brentwood Planning Commission and the City Council last summer, but hit a roadblock in its construction after local developer West Coast Home Builders filed a lawsuit alleging that the environmental impact study for the project was outdated.

“Costco will represent one of our largest employers and tax generators in town,” said City Manager Tim Odgen in a statement. “We welcome the arrival of Costco with more good things to come.”
Ogden said the city was strategic about the giant store’s arrival and prepared for it by extending Sand Creek Road from Highway 4 to Heidorn Ranch Road in an effort to alleviate traffic generated along Lone Tree Way.
Ogden also said the Costco will represent one of the first nonresidential developments in the city’s Innovation Center.
Brentwood’s Innovation Center is a planned 300-acre mixed-use development along state Highway 4 just south of the new Costco along Heidorn Ranch Road that will eventually be home to a new BART station, according to the city.
Brentwood estimates that the new Costco will be open by early 2025.
