San Francisco police this week announced 10 arrests made earlier this month as part of an operation targeting retail theft in the area of the Stonestown Galleria mall.
Officers assigned to the department’s Taraval Station, including some plainclothes officers, waited to arrest criminals who shoplifted from stores in the 3200 block of 20th Avenue and the 200 block of Winston Drive. The stores were chosen due to the high number of thefts the businesses were experiencing, police said.
Between Oct. 8 and Oct. 13, police cited and released seven suspects for thefts, while three others were booked into jail for outstanding warrants as well as the thefts, according to police.
The Police Department said officers will continue to conduct the retail theft operations around the city as part of a $15.3 million grant awarded last year by the state. Any business that would like to participate in an operation can email the department.
