Redwood City police are investigating a reported theft in which a woman’s gold necklace was stolen in a “blessing” scam on the 200 block of Madrone Street last week, authorities said.

According to the police report, the woman was watering plants in front of her residence at around 9 a.m. on Thursday when a vehicle pulled up beside the victim and asked her for directions.

A female suspect reportedly pulled the woman closer, placed a medallion on her neck, and said she wanted to “bless” her. The suspect then removed the medallion but also took two of the victim’s chains, the report said.

The victim was able to keep one of her chains, but the suspect drove away with the other, according to police.

The female suspect is described as a Middle Eastern woman, around 50 to 60 years old, wearing a head covering. The driver, described as a Middle Eastern man approximately 45 to 50 years old and around 250 pounds, police said.

The car was said to be a dark SUV.

Police urge the public to be cautious and report any suspicious encounters to the Redwood City Police Department at (650) 780-7100.
