The Salinas Police Department was awarded a $98,000 state grant for traffic safety enforcement.
The grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety will support education, DUI checkpoints, officer certification programs and various safety enforcement operations to try to reduce serious injuries and deaths on roads. The grant will fund programs through September 2025, according to a press release from the police department.
“We are grateful to receive this grant, which will ensure we maintain our traffic enforcement activities within our community,” said Albert Duran, a sergeant with the Salinas Police Department.
By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, we aim to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone,” Duran said.
Enforcement operations funded by the grant include distracted driving operations, redlight, speeding and other traffic safety violations, and will fund community safety presentations, according to the press release.
