Contra Costa County has certified the results of the Nov. 5 general election, Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Kristin Connelly announced Tuesday.
“Our team of experts at the Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder-Elections Department has once again administered an accurate, transparent, safe and secure election,” Connelly said in a statement. “I am proud to work shoulder to shoulder with this dedicated and professional team, who ensure our democracy runs smoothly at every step.”
The elections division conducted the canvass to complete the official count of all qualified ballots and to perform audits to verify the tabulation equipment performed as intended.
The canvass accomplishes four primary tasks: ensuring that every eligible ballot is counted, that voters only voted once, that proper procedures were followed, and that the vote tabulation system counted ballots properly.
There were 722,861 registered voters for the 2024 election. They cast 539,219 ballots, which was a 74.6% turnout. Of those, 467,835 voters returned their vote-by-mail ballot, 86.76% of the ballots cast. Those deciding to vote in person numbered 71,384 voters, which was 13.24% of ballots cast.
The number of ballots cast was down from the previous presidential election in 2020, when 591,143 people voted, a turnout of more than 84% of the registered voters in that election.
