Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire at the Humane Society Silicon Valley shelter in Milpitas on Monday that forced the evacuation of animals and staff and prompted the facility to close for the remainder of the day.

There were no injuries to staff or animals resulting from the fire, which may have started in a laundry room. The blaze also affected the operations and medical areas at the facility on Ames Avenue, according to a release from the organization.

There were no injuries reported in the blaze and all animals were safely evacuated and being cared for in temporary accommodations, officials said, but the facility is asking for donations of clean blankets and towels until they can replace the laundry machines.

Monetary donations are always encouraged and anyone looking to adopt a new furry friend is also welcome to stop by, a spokesperson said.

Donations can be dropped off at the Humane Society Silicon Valley at 901 Ames Ave. in Milpitas.
