The Oakland Police Department has designated two “Safe Exchange Zones” for people who are buying and selling goods online or meeting for exchanges.
The zones are at OPD Headquarters, 455 7th St., and at the Eastmont Substation, 2651 73rd Ave., police said on social media Friday.
“These locations are monitored by surveillance cameras and the lobbies are open during business hours to exchange goods when making an online marketplace transaction,” police said.
For safe transactions, police recommend:
- Always meet in a public, well-lit location.
- If possible, bring a friend or family member with you.
- Trust your instincts–if something feels off, reschedule, or cancel the meetup.
