Cory Call, who rose through the ranks of the Foster City Police Department to captain of the patrol division, has been appointed chief.
Call has been with the department since 2001 and has led patrol operations since 2019, the city said in a news release.
Call succeeds Tracy Avelar, who left last month to be chief of the Pleasanton Police Department, the city said.
Call earned his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice management from Union Institute and University and a master’s degree in law enforcement and public safety leadership from the University of San Diego.
“It’s an honor to serve the Foster City community alongside the dedicated and talented members of the Foster City Police Department,” Call said in a statement. “I am humbled to now have the privilege of leading our exceptional team as we continue to uphold our mission of delivering excellent service to every person who lives, works, and plays in this amazing city.”
