Residents in parts of central and southern Marin County could soon see their trash collection fees rise under a proposal being considered by the county Board of Supervisors next week.

Marin Sanitary Service is requesting to increase its rate by 3.61% for 2025, which would mean an estimated increase of about 50 cents per month for the waste hauler’s most common residential service package.

MSS serves customers in San Rafael, San Anselmo, Ross, Kentfield, Kent Woodlands, Fairfax, Greenbrae, Larkspur and other parts of central and southern Marin.

The board on Tuesday will consider scheduling a public hearing for Jan. 28 to discuss and approve the rate hike request. If approved, the fee increase would be retroactive to Jan. 1.

The supervisors will meet at 9 a.m. in board chambers at Room 330 of the Marin County Civic Center complex at 3501 Civic Center Drive in San Rafael. The meeting can also be watched remotely, with information on participating available online.
