There’s an opportunity to begin the new year doing something for one of Santa Clara County’s most vulnerable populations: People experiencing homelessness.
The county’s 2025 HUD Point-In-Time Count will take place during the mornings of Jan. 22 and 23, with South County on the 22nd and North County on the 23rd, county officials said.
The purpose is to obtain a snapshot census of people experiencing homelessness in Santa Clara County during a designated 24-hour period.
Volunteers will conduct a brief 5-10-minute survey of people experiencing homelessness that will ask for demographic information and living situation, among other things.
The count is an essential element in the effort to end homelessness, the county said. It presents an opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and hear their personal experiences, according to the county.
PIT counts are used by counties to compare homelessness over the years and gain an understanding of what is working and what isn’t.
More information about the count and how to volunteer is available on the county’s website.
