“The City Council would like to express its gratitude to Mr. Smith for his service and dedication to our city over the past five and a half years and wish him well in his future endeavors,” the city said in a statement.

The council hired Smith in February 2019 and his retirement was effective this past Friday. Before working in Antioch, Smith was assistant city attorney for San Leandro and did work for El Cerrito, Larkspur and the Central Contra Costa Sanitary District.

Cole is currently the city attorney for Oakley. He served as assistant city attorney in Antioch in 2015-2016 and 2017-2019.
