The superintendent of the Alisal Union School District in Salinas, one of the largest elementary school districts in Monterey County, will retire at the end of the 2024-25 school year.
Jim Koenig, 73, has led the district since 2019, school officials said in a Feb. 7 news release.
He joined the district in 2008 as its chief business official after serving in a similar position at the San Benito High School District in Hollister. He was named Alisal’s interim superintendent in 2019.
The appointment became permanent in 2020, just as the COVID pandemic had pushed all the schools in Monterey County to close, according to the district.
The district’s board of trustees plans to complete a search for a successor by March 21.
