The Santa Cruz County Civil Grand Jury, which investigates the operations of local government, will release its consolidated final report for 2023-2024 on Thursday.
The report includes nine reports published during the previous grand jury’s 12-month term, and all responses to those reports, the grand jury said in a press release Friday.
Annually, each of California’s 58 counties assemble ordinary citizens, under oath, to serve as grand jurors.
The grand jury’s function is to investigate the operations of the various officers, departments and agencies of local government. Each grand jury determines which officers, departments and agencies it will investigate, according to the Judicial Branch of California.
In addition to its watchdog functions, the grand jury can issue criminal indictments and investigate allegations of a public official’s corrupt or willful misconduct in office, the judicial branch said on its website.
The Santa Cruz County Civil Grand Jury, which recently began its one-year term, is a group of 19 jurors charged with investigating aspects of public governmental offices.
Complaints may be made online or by mail. Complaint forms in both Spanish and English can be accessed on the Santa Cruz County website.
