Three men posing as employees of Elon Musk’s cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency demanded digital information at San Francisco City Hall on Friday, the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department said.
The men, described as being dressed in DOGE shirts and MAGA hats, entered various offices about 12 p.m. and pressed employees to turn over information related to alleged wasteful government spending and fraud, the sheriff’s department said.
The three may have been imposters, according to the sheriff’s office.

“We do not believe the individuals requesting access to city files were representatives from DOGE,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
The employees rebuffed the trio and called sheriff’s deputies, who are responsible for security at City Hall.
The men fled the building before they could be located, the sheriff’s office said.
Surveillance video is being reviewed to pursue leads, according to the sheriff’s office.
