There will be a few less “bombs bursting in air” around San Joaquin County this Fourth of July holiday.
A six-week operation led by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office Illegal Firework Task Force led to more than 7,000 pounds of illegal fireworks seized.
The sheriff’s office announced Monday that during their operation deputies removed 7,448 Pounds of dangerous fireworks from the county, seized 129 pounds of explosive precursor powders, confiscated 145 destructive devices, and arrested 13 individuals.
Additionally, the operation led to the initiation of 31 investigations, 29 charges, seven firearms taken off the streets, four citations issued, three search warrants executed, two suppressors found, and one explosives lab dismantled.
Deputies reminded the public that all fireworks, despite ones with “safe and sane” seals, are still illegal in some unincorporated areas throughout the county.
People were advised to check local regulations prior to purchasing fireworks.
