The city of Santa Rosa joined a bikeshare program this week that is already operating in other cities in the counties of Marin and Sonoma.

The Redwood Bikeshare program rolled out in Santa Rosa with 35 e-bikes that were placed at seven hubs. Another 45 bikes and five hubs are scheduled to be rolled out this week, according to a news release from the city of Santa Rosa.

The city joins the cities of Larkspur, San Rafael, Petaluma, Cotati and Rohnert Park in participating in the program, which allows users to unlock a bike from a docking station for a fee, or with a monthly subscription, and return it to any other dock in the network.

Redwood Bikeshare is a partnership between the company Drop Mobility, the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, and the Transportation Authority of Marin. It was funded by an $826,000 grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Bike Share Capital Program, according to the news release.

Hubs are located along the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit corridor and will ultimately include 300 bicycles. A map of Santa Rosa stations can be found on the Redwood Bikeshare information page.

Subscriptions for $20 a month will allow users to ride for the first 30 minutes for free, and 25 cents per minute after that, without a fee to unlock the bike. Users without subscriptions will pay $1 to unlock a bike, and 25 cents per minute to ride. Discounted equity memberships are also available.

A coupon code was created for first time users, who must have a smartphone to unlock and ride. The code, provided by the city of Santa Rosa’s news release, is RideRedwood.

More information is available at the program’s website.
