Cold, rainy weather is in store for the Bay Area over the next few days, with additional storms expected to roll through the region on Sunday and into next week.
Light to moderate rain is expected for much of the Bay Area on Wednesday and Thursday, with smaller amounts likely in the North Bay and heavier amounts forecast for points farther south, particularly for the Central Coast, according to the National Weather Service.
The drizzle will take a break Friday and Saturday, but cold temperatures will persist with lows in the mid to upper 30s and the 40s across much of the region.
While the rain lingers, a little snow is possible for higher elevations.
During the first round of rain, totals will hover around a tenth of an inch for the North Bay, up to about a third of an inch for most of the rest of the region, and up to three-quarters of an inch for the San Mateo County coast, the southern Santa Clara Valley and Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties, according to the weather service.
An inch to an inch and three-quarters of rain is forecast for the Santa Lucia Mountains and the Big Sur areas, which are likely to see a little snowfall at higher elevations on Thursday, as well.
Showers are also expected along the Mendocino County coast Wednesday and into Thursday morning, with some possible mountain snow, frost and the chance for brief periods of heavy rain and small hail.
The region could also experience some blustery conditions, with wind gusts of between 25 mph to 40 mph along the coast but then, as things calm down, people can expect some valley fog to develop Thursday night and into Friday.
Stronger storms are forecast starting Sunday as a series of low-pressure systems move through the Bay Area, but it’s unclear how much precipitation those storms might bring.
