U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, D-San Rafael, and state Assemblymember Chris Rogers, D-Santa Rosa, will hold a town hall Friday at Mendocino College to discuss the administration of President Donald Trump and share plans for the House Committee on Natural Resources, where Huffman is a ranking member.
The event will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday at Mendocino College’s Center for Visual and Performing Arts and will feature a question-and-answer session for constituents. A livestream will be available through KZYX Radio and Mendocino Coast Media, airing on Comcast’s Channel 3 and Channel 64. The broadcast will also be available at kzyx.org.
The town hall is one of several events Huffman is leading this year to address the state of affairs during the Trump administration and the potential challenges arising from the president’s recent legislation, including proposals to eliminate the Federal Emergency Management Agency and cut funding for local food banks.
At a recent town hall in Eureka in Humboldt County, Huffman described Trump’s actions as an “existential threat to democracy.”
Rogers, who has a history of serving Northern California communities, currently represents Assembly District 2, which includes Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Sonoma and Trinity counties. Rogers served as a Santa Rosa city councilmember and mayor before his current role. Before 2016, he was a senior staff member for state Sen. Mike McGuire.
“It’s important to have a place for our constituents to voice their concerns and hear what their elected officials are doing to protect them,” Rogers said in a statement. “Whether D.C. or Sacramento, decisions are being made that impact people’s lives, and they rightfully deserve an opportunity to be heard.”
Constituents will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis, but guests are encouraged to RSVP by Thursday evening. Large backpacks and bags are not allowed inside the venue.
