NURSES AT SAN LEANDRO and Alameda hospitals have approved a new five-year contract to boost patient safety and help keep nurses on the job, the California Nurses Association announced.
San Leandro nurses approved the agreement on Thursday, followed by Alameda nurses on Friday, the association said.
Contract highlights include wage increases of at least 25% over five years, improved scheduling practices favoring local union nurses, guaranteed rest and meal breaks, and nurse representation in the hospitals’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.
The new pact unifies both facilities under a single contract and will be in effect from April 1, 2024, through March 31, 2029.
“Because we remained united in our goal to improve nurse and patient health and safety, this landmark agreement raises the bar for the recruitment and retention of Bay Area nurses,” said Linda Strack, a registered nurse in the operating room at Alameda Hospital.
“This new contract enables us to provide the best possible care to the vulnerable communities we serve at Alameda Health,” said Mawata Kamara, a registered nurse in the emergency department at San Leandro Hospital.
