The Brentwood City Council unanimously appointed Darin Gale as interim city manager, effective immediately.
The council also named Sukari Beshears interim assistant city manager as it begins its search for the next permanent city manager.
The city said in a statement Gale brings a wealth of public service experience from leadership roles in a number of Northern California cities. His LinkedIn profile said he was most recently Brentwood’s assistant city manager of economic development, public policy, & government affairs.
The city said Gale’s background in economic development, strategic planning, and community engagement positions him to guide Brentwood during this interim period.
“We are confident that Darin’s leadership will provide stability and momentum as we move forward,” Mayor Susannah Meyer said in the statement. “His proven track record and collaborative approach here in Brentwood make him the right choice to lead our city organization at this time.”
Beshears moves into the role of interim assistant city manager. Beshears has more than 33 years of local government experience and has been Brentwood’s director of human resources/risk manager for more than eight years. The city said she brings strong institutional knowledge, visionary leadership, commitment to inclusive governance, and organizational strategy to her new job.
“City Council is in full support of Sukari in this expanded leadership role,” Meyer said. “We look forward to working with both Darin and Sukari in their interim capacities, through this transition and into a strong future for the city.”
The council will publicly discuss the recruitment process for the next city manager in the coming weeks.
