The Bay Area Air District has fined subsidiaries of Kinder Morgan Inc. $226,990 for air quality violations at fuel terminals in Richmond and San Jose, officials announced.
The penalty addresses eight violations issued in 2022 and 2023, including gaps in tank roofs, exceeding storage limits, vapor leaks and a gasoline spill, officials said.
All violations have since been corrected, the agency noted.
Under a new Air District policy, a portion of the fine will support pollution reduction and public health projects in impacted communities.
Kinder Morgan operates pipelines and fuel terminals across North America.
