The City of East Palo Alto has received $581,060 from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission’s Climate Program Implementation Grant to install 24 new public electric vehicle charging stations across the city, city officials announced.
The joint project, approved by MTC in March, will install a total of 66 EV chargers in the four communities, officials said.
The funding is part of a regional initiative led by San Mateo County that also includes San Carlos, Half Moon Bay, and Portola Valley, a press release issued Friday noted.
“Expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure is a critical step in reducing emissions,” said Humza Javed, East Palo Alto’s Public Works Director. “The City is thrilled to receive this grant which will accelerate our transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.”
EV chargers will be installed near key public locations such as Cooley Landing, City Hall, and the Senior Center.
The project is currently entering the Transportation Improvement Program process, with installation expected to begin within the next two years, officials said.
