Two out-of-towners and one San Franciscan won the 47th Annual San Francisco Marathon full marathon division last weekend, race officials said.
Charlie Lawrence, 29, of Boulder, Colo. won the men’s division in the full marathon, completing the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 22 minutes and 30 seconds. In the women’s division of the full marathon, Jenna Wolfrum, 24, of Barrington, Ill. took the number one spot in 2 hours, 52 minutes and 10 seconds, officials said.
For the third year in a row, the full marathon featured a non-binary-plus division, and J.L. Odom, 45, of San Francisco won in this division, completing the course in three hours, 17 minutes and 52 seconds.
More than 30,000 people took part in the race, which started at the Ferry Building, then went to the Presidio, across the Golden Gate Bridge, back into Golden Gate Park, across the Mission District and ran along the shoreline back to the Embarcadero – some of the Bay Area’s premier landmarks.
The Sunday event also featured variations including a 10K race and two half-marathons.
Organizers of the race have touted it as the first marathon in California to have a separate division of nonbinary+ designated for nonbinary, bi-gender, agender, two-spirit and gender fluid participants as well as the traditional male and female divisions.
“Congratulations to the runners who finished at the top of their division! We are so thankful over 30k runners participated in the 47th San Francisco Marathon, whether the Full Marathon, Ultra, or one of our shorter routes, this figure is quite a landmark,” said Lauri Abrahamsen, General Manager and Race Director at Jumping Fences, Inc., the event management company that produces the San Francisco Marathon.
