The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors has approved more than $5 million to fund 63 community-based and nonprofit organizations.
Chair Miguel Villapudua said he and the board were excited to offer funding once again to community organizations that provide vital services to residents in the county.
County officials said in a statement that following a competitive grant process, funding opportunities were available to tax-exempt nonprofit organizations that provide a variety of services to county locals.
Each year, the county awards one-time funding to community-based organizations and nonprofit organizations that help their services or assist in the completion of special projects and initiatives within the communities.
County officials said in a statement that the funding is not designed to support the organizations with operating expenses, but instead acts as additional support to expand services to the community with a focus on the board’s strategic priorities.
This cycle, services include health and human services, youth enrichment, veterans, animal welfare, environmental action, assistance for unhoused residents and other vital community support.

“Since this program began, we have grown from $200,000 in funding to over $5 million,” Villapudua said.
A spokesperson for the county said community-based organizations were granted $202,000 in 2009, but the program history goes back even further.
From the 2023 cycle to the 2024 cycle, the amount of money doubled from $2.6 million to $5.1 million.
The board is set to finalize the distribution during its June 18 meeting, after which selected organizations will be contacted by the county to receive their funding by August.
