The Mendocino Transit Authority in partnership with Mendocino College announced that it will re-launch evening bus service in Ukiah for the college starting Monday.
“It’s been a long time coming, and we are excited to bring back the evening bus service. MTA is grateful for the support from our Board of Directors, Mendocino Council of Governments and Mendocino College,” says Jacob King, executive director of MTA. “This service not only enhances transportation for our community but also helps college students by providing free and convenient transportation.”
The bus line, named Local 9, will provide hourly bus service daily from 5-11 p.m. in Ukiah. In addition to the college campus, the bus stops throughout Ukiah, including downtown, shops along Airport Boulevard, the Mendocino Community Health Clinic, Pear Tree Center, and limited services to Ukiah High School.
Students can ride for free with a valid student ID card and a sticker for the current semester. Students can learn more by visiting the Mendocino College Library.
“Transportation is a basic need for Mendocino College students. Being able to access free bus lines in the evenings is essential for many of our students,” says Ulises Velasco, vice president of student services at Mendocino College. “We’ve been partnering with MTA for multiple years now to bring free bus rides to our students. We’re thrilled to enhance our partnership that will benefit students and our community”.
