Sonoma County’s Board of Supervisors has adopted a budget that increases spending 10 percent to $2.5 billion and adds 43 full-time jobs for a total of 4,502 employees.

The increases included $923,000 to the Department of Emergency Management to add two employees and fund expenses of the Emergency Operations Center. The board also added $834,000 to support justice services, including the Family Justice Center overseen by the district attorney’s office.

While state and federal funds provide the majority of the county’s budget, officials cautioned that property tax revenue may slow in the future. Taxes paid when property changes hands have fallen 35 percent, indicating property sales have decreased significantly.

“The fiscal decisions in the county’s budget will take care of our employees, safeguard public services and allow us to better navigate any future economic uncertainty,” Supervisor David Rabbitt, chair of the board, said in a statement Friday.
