Foodies will flock to the Sausalito waterfront on Saturday for the city’s 45th Annual Chili Cook-Off.
During the event, food enthusiasts can enjoy an all-they-can-eat bounty of chili, ranging from traditional Texas-style to vegan. Attendees will vote for their favorite chili to win the People’s Choice Award and a panel of judges will select the winners for Judge’s Choice and Best Booth design.
In addition to the chili competition, a hot pepper eating contest will occur during which brave souls (hopefully armed with antacid) will consume hot peppers. There are multiple rounds, with each pepper being increasingly hotter than the one before it. The winner who survives will win a trip for two on a private coastal schooner.
To wash it all down, beer, wine, margaritas, sodas and snow cones will be available for purchase.
This year’s theme is “Out of This World.” Guests and competitors are encouraged to wear their favorite UFO-inspired looks. The band Tracorum, which describes itself as “cosmic-gospel thunder-funk,” will provide the soundtrack to the afternoon.
The 45th Annual Chili Cook-Off takes place Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Dunphy Park in Sausalito. Tickets are $25-$30 and are available for purchase.
