All campgrounds and roads in Jackson Demonstration State Forest, with few exceptions, have been closed for the season, said Cal Fire, the agency that manages the forest.
The annual closures in Mendocino County are due to seasonal wet weather, which can result in wet and dangerous conditions, such as rutting and erosion on roads and in campgrounds.
Despite the roads being closed to unauthorized vehicles, which began on Tuesday, hikers can still utilize the roads for recreation.
The following roads are expected to stay open during the winter, with possible closures due to road or weather conditions:
- Road 200 (closed between Road 250 and 1000 until Nov. 15)
- Road 250
- Road 350 (access to Camp 1 Day Use Area)
- Road 500
- Road 700 (to Mendocino Woodlands State Park)
- Road 810
- Road 900 (only to Road 810/920)
The agency anticipates the roads and campgrounds reopening in the spring.
