If you see smoke in the skies above Napa wine country on Saturday, there’s likely no cause for alarm.
That’s because firefighters will be conducting an 80-acre prescribed burn in south Napa County, according to Cal Fire.
Crews will be conducting the planned fire within the Wild Horse Valley community around 8 a.m. Saturday. It is estimated to last until 5 p.m.
“Controlled vegetation management burns are carefully planned and must meet strict criteria for ecological benefit, weather parameters, smoke management and fire safety guidelines. When all conditions are met, trained wildland firefighters conduct the burn, while monitoring the set criteria, fire behavior and designated fire control lines,” Cal Fire said.
Cal Fire and the Napa County Fire Department are aiming to remove wildland debris, control invasive species, eliminate diseased plants and trees, and reduce fire fuels during the prescribed burn.
