An architect serving on the Historic Preservation Commission and a Carpenter’s Union official have been nominated to the San Francisco Planning Commission by Mayor London Breed.
Amy Campbell, of the Gensler architecture firm, and Sean McGarry, senior field representative for Carpenters Local 22, would replace outgoing Commission President Sue Diamond and Commissioner Joel Koppel if confirmed by the Board of Supervisors.
“We need leaders who not only bring their expertise but can also build bridges with the community to get things done,” Breed said in a press release Friday.
The seven-member Planning Commission approves such things as land use and construction permits and oversees the San Francisco Planning Department.
Campbell serves as senior associate and studio director at Gensler, where she focuses on rehabilitation, preservation, and repurposing existing structures. She has served on the preservation commission since November and would step down upon confirmation of her new role, Breed’s office said.
McGarry, a member of the Carpenters Union for over 27 years, holds elected office at local and regional levels of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, according to the mayor’s office. Originally from Ireland, he is a 30-year resident of San Francisco.
