Renovations including an off-leash dog play area, a dog-free lawn and other amenities were recently unveiled in San Francisco’s Esprit Park in the city’s Dogpatch neighborhood.
This is the first major makeover for the 43-year-old park, according to officials with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department. The renovation project aimed to modernize the 2-acre park while preserving the park’s original open and natural atmosphere.
The new design consists of two spacious north and south meadows in the park, located in the Dogpatch neighborhood on the eastern side of the city, next to the San Francisco Bay waterfront and east of Potrero Hill.

The off-leash dog park is on the north meadow and the dog-free lawn is in the south meadow. An accessible concreate path rings around and bisects both meadows, making it easier to stroll, walk and run through the park.
Other additions include picnic areas with new seating and tables, as well as new trees and plantings. The park’s adult exercise stations have been replaced and modernized, and a fifth station added.
