Newsom appoints Emeryville Councilmember Welch to California housing agency role

Courtney Welch, an Emeryville city councilmember since 2021, has been appointed to the California Housing Partnership Corp., Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said last week.

The partnership assists nonprofit and government housing agencies to create and preserve housing that is affordable to lower-income households, according to is LinkedIn page.

Welch has been the director of external affairs of the California Housing Defense Fund since 2023. She was the director of planning and investigation at the defense Fund from 2022 to 2023.

She was the director of policy and communications of the Bay Area Community Land Trust from 2021 to 2022, the governor’s office said.

The position requires Senate confirmation, and there is no compensation, according to the governor’s office. Welch is a Democrat.
