Richmond police impounded three vehicles, wrote citations and dispersed a crowd of about 200 at a sideshow Sunday night.

Officers responded to the area of West Cutting and Canal boulevards and encountered “numerous recklessly driving vehicles,” police said on social media.

Police also estimated there were 200 spectators, many of whom were setting off commercial-grade fireworks.

While dispersing the crowd, officers followed four vehicles attempting to flee, to East Richmond Avenue and Wine Street, where they encountered a dead end. One driver tried escape and ended up with flat tires after running over a tire deflation device and a concrete island.

Drivers of the remaining three vehicles were cited and their cars were impounded for 30 days. The drivers face fines up to $500 in addition to their tow fees, along with possible license suspension.

One of the drivers was from Patterson and another was from Sacramento, police said.
